York County Beekeepers Association (YCBA) of South Carolina is dedicated to the tradition of beekeeping in SC. Beekeeping is more than an art, and more than a science — it is something to be experienced. We invite you to experience this fascinating tradition, either here on the Web, at one of our monthly meetings, or in person, as a guest speaker at your club, school, church or civic organization.

Beekeeping is a great pastime for the whole family, retired person or just someone that desires a worthwhile hobby. Once you get a taste for it, you will be glad you did. There are a lot of benefits: Honey harvest, awareness of nature, hive products for sell, friendships from neighborhood and bee club. Beginner Class Benefits: You will have the textbook and curriculum to give more in depth information. You will get the support of the Beekeeper Association to help you learn hands on. The Sate and local association will provide valuable information about beekeeping and ongoing research. You will have an opportunity to go to conferences on beekeeping and meet beekeeping specialist. Upon Course Completion: you will be given a South Carolina Certification test, this gives you the State level Beekeeping certification.

Honey bees are important to the environment and our food supplies. Without bees 80% of our food supply would not be pollinated. There is no other insect that can do what honey bees can do. Honey bees make crops grow better, bountiful and heartier.

The investment for getting started into beekeeping is minimal. Cost can vary $500, includes protective wear, wooden ware, other beekeeping equipment.

Many products can be produced from the hive. Virtually everything inside the hive that the honey bees produce can be harvested and sold. Things like, honey, beeswax, propolis, royal jelly, pollen, tinctures, lip balm, boot butter and the list goes on.
